To Instructor or not to Instructor

There are many ways to practise for the test.

The easiest and quickest way to get a feel for the test segments and get an accurate and direct assessment of your riding in real time is with an Instructor. Even the best videos (which we have and are currently making) whilst valuable, are unable to provide this level of feedback. You can find some certified instructors, that is those who have a licence to instructor class R licences, here

Whilst traning with an instructor is the most efficient way to learn, it is not the only way. There are other options, including getting help from family and friends, setting up the segments yourself and just practising until you get it. If you are being trained by your family, in particular your husband or wife, after a while you may think it better for your marriage to get an instructor. :)

Whatever your approach, you can find the resources that will help you to get through it. As all the directives suggest, 'the test is not hard or dangerous for a skilled rider'.

It is perfectly doable to practise on your own, but if you have a bigger bike and you want to use it, great, or if you want to absolutely demolish the course then Get taught

Getting Started

STEP 1

STEP 2

Depending on your temperament, choose from the following.

For you who are organised and like to get things done, then:

  • Give yourself a deadline by booking in the course and test before you start any practise :) hahaha (you know you want to)
  • Read only what you need and get it done

For you who like to think about things, take your time and get it right:

  • Download our measurement and layout (with dimensions) (see below)
  • Finding a carpark or quiet roadway
  • Decide what bike to use (see below)
  • Get a piece of chalk and a measuring tape and mark out the course
  • Read as much as you can and watch as many videos as possible about the course and test before attempting to doing anything practical. This will not contribute to feelings of anxiety at all :) (Note: Sarcasm alert!)

STEP 3

Actually practise.

STEP 4

Check out our MASTER CLASS videos on the individual parts of the test. They are quite intense and will contain heaps of information. That's right 'will' because they are not finished and they take a lot of effort to produce.

What you can do is check out our online training options, where you can get feedback on your riding online. It's quite cheap and very effective.
